The firm achieved great success, was among the largest casket manufacturers in the world and the earliest traded on the New York and Philadelphia stock exchanges. The company secured numerous patents for innovative improvements and designs and was renowned for its fine craftsmanship and progressive marketing techniques which led to global sales growth. Perhaps most famously, Boyertown Burial was commissioned to make a casket for Harry Houdini in the 1920's to use in one of his escape acts. Houdini entered the casket, had it sealed, and then was lowered into the Hudson River. The concealed bell in the casket was rung from the inside while under water to signal the timing of his release. This was used many times in his act, and he kept it for his own funeral [and was buried in it]. The company caesed operating in 1983. Very good condition with clean and tight interior pages.. Some edgewear to external extremities and a few small spots on therear cover. Item #301167
