In 2007, Glaser was commissioned to design a poster for the final season of AMC network's hit television series Mad Men. The poster, featuring the silhouette of a man in a suit with a martini glass and cigarette in hand, was intended to capture the essence of the show's setting in the 1960s and to evoke the mood of the time. Glaser used bold, bright colors and simple shapes to create a graphic design that was both retro and modern. The poster was widely praised for its clever design and effective marketing of the final season of the show. It became an iconic image of the series and was even featured in the opening credits of some episodes.Ê Ê Milton Glaser changed the vocabulary of American visual culture in the 1960s and 1970s with his brightly colored, extroverted posters, magazines, book covers and record sleeves, notably his 1967 poster of Bob Dylan with psychedelic hair and his I Love NY logo. In the late 1980s he designed the AIDS logo for the World Health Organization as well as a logo for Angels in America, Tony Kushner's Pulitzer Prize-winning play.Ê Ê Glaser's books include The Milton Glaser Poster Book [1977], Art Is Work [2000] and Drawing Is Thinking [2008]. He taught for many years at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and was the subject of the 2008 documentary film Milton Glaser: To Inform and Delight. In 2004 he received a lifetime achievement award from the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum [now the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum], and in 2009 he became the first graphic designer to receive the National Medal of Arts. Glaser's legacy as one of the most influential graphic designers of the 20th century lives on through his work and the many designers he inspired, including this stunning poster. Fine; rolled.
