"Stretching Your Dollar"

C1930. Softcover. 32pp. 4" x 6." Duo-tone. Black and white illustrations and testimonials throughout. Promotes Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. Lydia Estes Pinkham was an American inventor and marketer of an herbal-alcoholic "women's tonic" for menstrual and menopausal problems, which medical experts dismissed as a quack remedy, but which is still on sale today in a modified form. This is a booklet of recipes and household hints advertising Lydia E. Pinkham Medicine Company's products including 'Lydia E. Pinkham's private text book' - "not a book for children but one which women should read at their leisure" - presumably dealing with sexual matters. The vegetable compound seems to have been promoted for easing period pains - without actually saying so and for menopausal problems. A vaginal douche is also advertised. Rare. **OCLC** lists eleven [11] copies at various college and university libraries plus the New York Academy of Medicine, Winterthur and the Wellcome Library, London. Very Good. Item #700404
