The Story of The Trapp Family Singers [Signed]
Philadelphia: Lippincott and Co., 1950. Hardcover. 8vo., 328 pp. Illustrations by Agathe and Martina Trapp. Stated twelfth print, 1954. Signed by Maria Trapp on the front free endpaper: 'Stowe, Vermont / March 26, 27, 28, 29, / 1960 / Trapp Family Lodge / Maria Trapp.' This is an early [1954] print of the 1949 memoir written by Maria Augusta Trapp, whose life was later fictionalized in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Broadway musical 'The Sound of Music' in 1959. Trapp never intended to write anything of her life. However, a friend persuaded her to begin the project, even though Trapp denied she had writing skills. She proved to have natural writing talent and her jottings formed the basis of the first chapter of her memoirs. A German edition was published in 1952 by Frick in Vienna, with the title 'Die Trapp-Familie: Vom Kloster zum Welterfolg' ['The Trapp Family: From Monastery to Global Success']. Very Good in a Very Good dust jacket that has some handling and edge wear. Item #1004202611
