Lowry's masterpiece was successfully adapted in 1984 by John Huston into a feature film that starred Albert Finney, Jacqueline Bisset and Anthony Andrews, which was nominated for two Academy Awards, including Best Actor for Albert Finney, as well as the Palme d'Or at Cannes.
