Cincinatti: Harford Frocks, Inc., C1948. Softcover. Seven [7] one-sided cards measuring 8 1/2" x 11" on heavy cream-colored stock with black and white illustrations and bound-in fabric samples. In Very Good condition with a few light creases. Harford Frocks, Inc. was a Cincinnati, Ohio-based clothing company that marketed direct to consumers in their homes. The company usedÊ in-home Sales Consultants, usually women [especially homemakers] who wanted to make a little extra money. Each Consultant had a sales kit that included cards showing available styles with attached fabric swatches on each card, allowing the customer to actually feel the fabric. The company advertised in magazines and comic books. Although operating information on the company is difficult to find, it is believed it operated between the 1920s and the 1970s. OCLC identifies two [2] copies of one Harford Frocks item, a 1947 Sales Kit, includingÊ materials for use by the sales consultant, with one in the Duke University Library and one in the Hagley Museum. While there is information on a number of female clothing Sales Cards available, examples of Men's and Children's clothing Cards are rare. The collection contains: Card 1.
