The Columbia Graphophone Company, initially formed as the Columbia Phonograph Company in 1887, was a major player in the early history of recorded sound. Founded by Edward D. Easton, the company initially focused on selling and servicing phonographs and cylinders, including its own recordings. Later, it transitioned to selling disc records, competing with other giants like Edison and Victor.
